This week I had the honor of preaching at a youth camp. Their theme was “Survivors”. My assignment was to teach the book of Colossians. I found six keys to Survival for your Christian walk. I want to share them with you.
  1. Christian survivors care about lost souls.

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace. Colossians 1:6 NLT

The good news of Jesus resurrection changed my life and is still changing lives today. Every time I hear about someone who’s life has been totally changed by Jesus Christ it gives me more resolve to continue living for Jesus. Paul said to do the work of an evangelist. Nothing will give you more spiritual energy than seeing someone give their life to Jesus.

  1. Christian survivors come to church to serve by bringing healing or refreshing.

Colosse was one of three cities at the foot of Mount Cadmus. With Laodicea in the middle, Heiropolis to the north and Colosse to the south. Heiropolis had hot springs while Colosse had cold springs. The hot springs bring healing while cold springs are refreshing on a hot summer day. Jesus wrote a letter to the church in Laodicea and said “I wish you were hot or cold. He said if you’re lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth. Jesus also taught His disciples by washing their feet that when you come to my house you come to serve. Those who don’t have no part with me. So to survive your Christian walk come to church to serve. Pray for the sick to be healed. Be refreshing to others. Lets read the letter to the church in Laodicea.   “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen—the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s new creation: “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!  But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!  You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.  So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. Revelation 3:1418 NLT

  1. Christian survivors love God’s Word like pure gold.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:16 NLT   In His letter to the Laodiceans Jesus advised them to buy gold that has been tried in the fire. Listen to these words from the Psalms. Honoring the LORD is correct, lasting forever. The LORD ’s judgments are true. All of these are righteous! They are more desirable than gold— than tons of pure gold! They are sweeter than honey— even dripping off the honeycomb! Psalms 19:910 CEB You won’t survive this Christian walk without spending time in God’s Word. The treasure of God’s Word is more valuable than tons of pure gold. The Bible Is The most important book in the world. If you don’t have one, get one.

  1. Christian survivors understand that Christ’s triumph is my triumph.

When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities [those supernatural forces of evil operating against us], He made a public example of them [exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession], having triumphed over them through the cross. COLOSSIANS 2:15 AMP Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority! Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ.   Colossians 3:13 TPT When the devil attacks you, you must answer him with confidence. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. In other words, to make you fall. Always meet him the answer I’m not going to fall today you are. Because of Jesus’ victory I have victory.

  1. Christian survivors are warriors & champions.

Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness. Colossians 1:11 KJV      The Hebrews battle cry was “Only be strong, and very courageous”. It meant to be infused with God’s strength that cannot fail. To survive this Christian walk you have to take time in God’s presence to be infused with His unfailing strength.

  1. Christian survivors speak the truth of God’s Word. Speak the Word only.

Let every word you speak be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. For then you will be prepared to give a respectful answer to anyone who asks about your faith. Colossians 4:6 TPT   Most Christians do not know how to talk. Our speech needs to be drenched with grace. That means that every word we speak should be influenced by God. Let want you say be tempered with the truth of God’s Word. Say what God says. God says you can, so you can. God says you are healed, so you are well. God says that you are rich, so you are rich. Always say what God says about you. If you will you will be a survivor…
