Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year
Pastor Tim Elliott

December was a full month of activities and fun. Linda Elliott was such a blessing to the ladies at our annual Ladies’ Christmas Party. We had combined Christmas parties with Door of Hope and The Singles Ministry. Our staff enjoyed a Christmas party at Cinergy. We had a blast. Then we thoroughly enjoyed watching “The Heart of Christmas” as a church family. My favorite part of the whole Christmas season was hearing our kids sing Christmas songs to the Lord at our Christmas program “Journey To Bethlehem”. They did an Outstanding job. Everyone has said such positive things about it.

Now we step into 2019. Great things are ahead for us. For one we will welcome the Jubilee Gang this summer for a 3 night family crusade. There will be much more about that later. But mark your calendars for June 30 – July 2. And make sure to bring the entire family.

January 1 is a day that traditionally we make New Year’s resolutions. From losing the holiday weight to exercising. Bible reading fits in there somewhere.

Which brings me to what I really wanted to talk about. Instead of a resolution I like to challenge myself to do better this year than I did last. Read the Bible more. Pray more. Get involved in church more.

  1. Read the Bible. For some reason many Christians find it challenging to read the Bible on a regular basis. This year I found a bible reading plan in the YouVersion Bible on my phone. It starts with a commentary and then you read in Matthew, Genesis, and Psalms. If you stay on the plan you can read the entire Bible in a year plus the commentary that goes along with it. Along with that I will be reading The Proverb of the day for each day of the month. So that I will read the book of Proverbs 12 times this year. I encourage you to start now challenging yourself with some kind of Bible reading plan. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail. Come up with a plan that works for you and stick with it for the entire year. Keep track of what you are doing. There are apps for that as well. Happy reading. You will only make your life better if you do.
  2. Pray… Almost every church has some kind of prayer team. Here at Cornerstone we have a team of prayers that pray 1 hour before our Sunday and Wednesday services and 1 hour on Thursday. Also get a prayer list. I put my list on index cards to start the year. My wife and I are going to fast watching TV for the month of January and instead of watching TV we’re going to get our prayer list and pray. I would encourage you to start going to the prayer group. I’d love to see so many people in the prayer meeting at church that we have to move it to the chapel. When you pray God moves. How do I know if God is working on a situation, because I prayed. God hears and answers prayer. So get praying in 2019.
  3. Go To Church… I’ve heard that a lot of Christians only go to church twice a month. We have 9 services or at least 8 every month. So that means that some are only going ¼ of the time. I understand that sometimes you have to work. But I encourage you to start making church more of a priority. Jesus said on this Rock I will build My Church. When you go to church go to find the heart of God. God wants to pour Himself into you, His strength, His courage, His healing. He does it at church. And when you go find a job to do. Be an usher, a greeter, a prayer, a nursery worker. There are a lot of jobs in the church. And we need you to serve when you come. You can find friends at church. We have a men’s fellowship and ladies’ bible study on the second Tuesday of every month. Coming to these fellowships is a good way to form friendships at church. And We have a lot of fun, good food, and always a good word during the Bible study time.

Make 2019 the best year of your spiritual life. Read your Bible, Pray, and go to church. Your life will be so much better if you will challenge yourself to focus on these three things this year.
